Unlike the operators who came before him, William isn't a superhuman cyborg or invulnerable ghost. He's relatively "normal," with no defense against The Arcade... besides his own blissful ignorance of its danger.

A gorilla-related trauma during his early childhood left Will with a sort of "emotional blind spot." Incapable of worry, shame, or regret, he is immune to The Arcade's fear-based psychic miasma. By spreading positive vibes, Will has rendered The Arcade functionally harmless.
